Production producer Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off the breakout success from his recent Broadway play, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a number of years before it premiered in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this debut that Miranda also portrayed the role of Hamilton. The entire Musical, including its stellar cast and unsurpassed score received extremely regarded reviews from both critics and new fans alike.
The show, as most know, is a historical tale that centers on one of the Countries Founding Fathers, but the show takes a contemporary and forward-thinking approach, as seen in the music styles chosen and especially in its multicultural cast. Also, the 2016 Tony Awards, where Hamilton bagged 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. the production’s first cast consisted of the likes of Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both well-known nominees and previous award winners, but their varied and strong performances combined brought the Musical to a brand-new level. The creative team, just as equally talented, collected Tony Awards for Hamilton. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course the man himself Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all topped the 70th Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, the show also won Best Musical for 2016. The current cast and production crew in each new venue where Hamilton is on tour brings the same energy and enthusiasm in their shows, with favorable reviews posted consistently.
The show’s global rise to fame led to opening many doors worldwide for the fans to experience Hamilton. It has continued for the past decade to perform not just on Broadway, but also over in the UK's West End and in a number of theaters across Asia.
