New York is the birthplace of one more hit musical, Disney’s The Lion King, as it continues its successful run with another limited production to be performed on Saturday 20th June 2026 in Procter & Gamble Hall at Aronoff Center, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. With outstanding architecture and design seen both inside and outside the said location, theatergoers have said that Procter & Gamble Hall at Aronoff Center still is one of their top show theater venues out of many.
The Lion King tells the coming-of-age story of a young lion cub named Simba, who is the only successor to rule as the King of the Pride Lands succeeding his father. The African savanna however is filled with secrecy and internal strife, as even in this pure and childlike plot, tragedy appears when the young prince's father and King is killed due to the actions of his evil uncle Scar, who plans to usurp the throne of these lands. The fledgling cub fears for his own life and goes into self-imposed banishment for much of his early childhood. During this exile, he encounters new friends, Timon and Pumbaa, who encourage him to forget his past and live life on his own terms. Simba's relaxed demeanor then suddenly changes when he once again encounters his childhood companion Nala, who reveals the tyranny of Scar to him and requests him to save the people of his land.
This incredibly powerful story of tragedy, unfound courage, and eventual redemption is enhanced by the familiar classic songs, written by Elton John and Tim Rice. Their original compositions, coupled with added songs and lyrics from big names like Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and director Julie Taymor have contributed to the immense success of The Lion King not just in Broadway, but also in international productions.
The original stage adaptation premiered on July 8, 1997, at the Orpheum theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was received so well by fans and achieved almost instant success, ushering in the musical's transfer and beginnings on the Broadway stage on October 15, 1997. Now running for years in theaters worldwide since its debut, be one of the lucky ones to witness the third longest-running production from Broadway as it performs in Ohio.
