Happening largely throughout the time span preceding and during the Rebellion of 1832 in France, the musical is the life story of Jean Valjean, a citizen of Paris, France who was pronounced guilty for 19 years as a consequence of stealing a loaf of bread for his nephew. After his release on parole, he escapes and seeks a second chance to live his life; Valjean then takes on a new name as Monsieur Madeleine, while still hiding from the law and Javert, an officer who has known Valjean since his time in the chain gang and determined to catch and bring Valjean face the consequences of his previous escape.

Taking place over a span of almost two decades covered by its two acts, Jean Valjean happens to be intertwined in one way or another with several important figures in every part of the show – Fantine is one of Jean Valjean's factory employees who gives birth to an illegitimate baby; Cosette is the adoptive baby of Monsieur Madeleine, who is in fact Fantine’s baby; Marius, a young local part of the insurgency and the true love of Cosette. Side characters shown in the play consist of the Thénardiers, immoral innkeepers who think only of themselves and are engrossed with their own personal gain; Eponine, their daughter, who harbors a secret love for for Marius; and comrades of the insurgency namely Gavroche, a naive but talented orphan, and the revolt’s leader, Enjolras.

This vibrant cast of characters who are part of one struggle and their individual stories are brought to life on a live platform, not just with its 1800s French-inspired clothing and prop creations, but distinctly with Les Misérables being sung-through fully from start to finish. With hit songs such as “I Dreamed a Dream” and “One Day More” as highlights of its astounding song list, the heart-stopping show is able to reveal the real and unmasked personalities hiding behind each and every character that comes to life in each performance.
